Eight Extraordinary Meridians Qigong

Working directly with the deep reservoirs of the Qi system. For experienced practitioners only.

→ Why choose this training?

The Eight Extraordinary Meridians - also called the Eight Extraordinary Vessels or Exceptional Vessels - sit deeper in the energy system than the twelve meridians most Qigong addresses. A traditional image captures the relationship well: if the meridians are rivers, the Vessels are the reservoirs behind them. They store Qi, feed it into the meridians when levels run low, and drain the excess when levels run high - a constant, quiet regulation that keeps the whole system in balance.

The Qi in the Vessels also has a noticeably different quality from the Qi in the twelve meridians. If your experience so far has been meridian Qigong, do not expect the same sensations here. Part of this course is learning to recognise that difference for yourself.

How the Practice Works

The Vessels are not reached by tracing lines. They are accessed through their Master and Coupled points - specific acupuncture points that act as gateways, or triggers. In this practice it is individual points that are activated, not meridians, which is why precise knowledge of where those eight points sit is essential: without it, there is no reliable feedback when a point responds. The paired relationships between Master and Coupled points, and the exact locations of all eight, are covered in full.

Two things worth understanding before you enrol. First, the Vessels - like the meridians - are not the tidy lines shown in diagrams; they are fields of energy, not confined to the physical body. Second, this practice involves the consciousness as much as the intention: the Yi focuses and guides the Qi, while it is the Shen that actually holds the awareness of it. Learning to work with both is part of the course.

What You Will Gain

By the end of the ten sessions you will be able to perform all of the exercises and you will have every tool and piece of information needed to develop deep, tangible awareness of the Qi in the Vessels. What the course cannot hand you is the awareness itself - that arrives only through continued practice. Stillness allows awareness. Awareness makes the Qi tangible. Tangibility gives feedback, and feedback is what makes your practice progressively more potent.

Prerequisites - Please Read Before Enrolling

This is not a beginner's course, and the foundations are not covered here. You should already be at home in Wuji stance, breathe naturally from the abdomen, and - most importantly - have tangible awareness of Qi from previous meridian-based practice. If any of those are missing, you are not ready yet, and that is fine: all of the other one-to-one Qigong courses build exactly these foundations. The demand for accuracy and sustained focus here is considerably higher than in meridian Qigong.

How the Course Runs
